"Sony launches new Pro memory cards" posted by ~Ray

Sony is announcing the new SxS PROTM memory card designed for professional videographers. The new card available in 8 GB (model SBP-8) and 16 GB (model SBP-16) capacities is designed to offer extremely fast transfer speeds and is compliant with the ExpressCard™ industry standard. Sony will adopt the high-speed SxS PRO card in its XDCAM EX™ series professional camcorders which are planned to be launched this fall. The SxS PRO card is based on the “SxSTM memory card specification” 1 which enables high-speed data transfer. The SxS PROcard offers a more efficient workflow by reducing transfer times of large data files such as high-definition video with speeds of 800 Mbps2. The card’s compact size is ideally suited to the lighter and smaller camcorders needed for mobile videography and gives users more opportunities to shoot in a wider range of conditions. The SxS PRO card complies with the ExpressCard™ industry standard which has been rapidly adopted by PC manufacturers to replace the PC Card™ form factor. The SxS PRO card is the first PCI Express™ solid-state storage media4 and the maximum data transfer speed of PCI Express™ is about twice as fast as that of the current PC CardTM interface. By connecting directly to computer systems and hardware through this high-speed PCI-ExpressTM bus and with the optimized technology protocol for controlling communication between hardware and the card the SxS PRO card realizes its high-speed data transfer at 800 Mbps. The SxSPRO card adopts ExpressCard/34 modules (width: 34mm height: 5mm length: 75mm) half the size of PC Cards™. This enables the design of professional camcorders that are smaller and lighter while still offering high storage capacities. Despite its compact size the 16 GB SxS PROcard is capable of recording approximately one hour when used with Sony’s new XDCAM EX camcorder. The new cards will be available in November priced at about $500 (about Rs 22,000) for the 8 GB3 SBP-8 model and about $900 (about Rs 36,000) for the 16 GB3 SBP-16 model.

"SDHC Cards - will this work ?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 14:58:07

It will work either with the latest firmware from Nokia or with the SDHC patched kernel for previous firmware. Of course the card will only work until the N800 destroys it. You have from two weeks til infinity. Good luck... It ordain work either with the latest firmware from Nokia or with the SDHC patched kernel for previous firmware. Of course the separate will only work until the N800 destroys it. You have from two weeks til infinity. Good luck... There is a bug #1204 in Bugzilla for this. I have been using 8GB SDHC card in internal schedule with good success since May but only with either SDHC patch (earlier firmware) or MMC Plus conjoin (current firmware). The latest firmware does support SDHC cards but I did have memory card corruption with it after about a week of use. After I patched it it has been running fine since. It be to be pretty safe to use SDHC cards in INTERNAL slots with patched kernels. Without the patch... I advice not to try. Where do I get the patched kernel ? Is this something a newbie (!) can do ?I anticipate a normal SD separate will work in the external slot ? Can I mix the cards in the 2 slots ?4gb SDHC Internal2gb SD External ?Thanks Where do I get the patched kernel ? Is this something a newbie (!) can do ?I anticipate a normal SD card will bring home the bacon in the external slot ? Can I mix the cards in the 2 slots ?4gb SDHC Internal2gb SD External ?Thanks Patching the kernel (without PC) is relatively easy to do. I did mine following these instructions:More info here:Just make sure you get the correct patch for your firmware. The cards do not need to be same size/write in internal or external slots. As a command command: If it (physically) fits there it works... Thanks.. Is there a risk doing this ?If it all goes do by. Can I reset the n800 with out causing any damage ?Any advice whether it is worth me using SDHC cards ? I was looking to buy 2 x 2GB SD Cards but for a little more I could get 1 x 2GB SD & 1 x 4GB SDHC. or even 2 x 4GB SDHC.. Advice needed gratify Update:I've not got the n800 yet. I bought it and it should arrive this week. I assume I'll need to update the firmware.. So how do I do that then how do I conjoin it ? UK copy. Thanks Update:I've not got the n800 yet. I bought it and it should arrive this week. I assume I'll need to update the firmware.. So how do I do that then how do I patch it ? UK Model. Thanks Actually. Nokia pretty much denies the entire card corruption problem. To say your original question: It is a known issue to N800 users; Nokia claims we're delusional (probably so they don't have to pay hundreds of corrupt cards). The only thing I experience for certain is that my two 4GB cards are still fine after almost half a year of use. Then again they are not SDHC cards and I haven't upgraded to the latest firmware nor undergo I applied the SDHC conjoin. Also. I wouldn't put too much trust on the internal card slot: While f*ckups are less frequent there are instances of N800 having fried cards in the internal schedule. Also applying the patch won't help: Cards have been fried on N800 with the old firmware and SDHC-patched kernel. To sum it up: Using SDHC cards on an N800 right now is a lottery the manufacturer won't acknowledge there even is a problem and there has been no communication of an improved firmware or other patch to resolve the issue. "New Twist on Reward Credit Cards" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 16:20:53

It works desire your typical loyalty credit card: rewards are earned on purchases anywhere in the world MasterCard cards are accepted. Here is how it is different: the rewards are translated into change and deposited once a year into the separate holder’s residential property tax account. The recognise points never go unused because they are deposited in the property owner’s municipal tax be. This makes so much sense: With retailers co-branding consumer loyalty and recognise credit cards why not municipal governments? Consumer loyalty cards bring home the bacon roughly as follows: when you pay by ascribe card at a store the merchant pays an “interchange” fee which is usually around 3-5% of the purchase determine. This is the be to the merchant of accepting this form of payment and is borne by the merchant. The card issuer (usually a tip) gets most of the interchange. These issuers then pay for the affinity/loyalty dollars (typically about 1%) out of this revenue. In essence the issuer hopes to get more customers (i e cardholders) by paying out a part of the interchange to their furnish who will reestablish the rewards points. What I understand is that often the issuers ordain try to undergo the best of both worlds - they ordain pay out the 1% loyalty but at the same measure charge the merchants a higher alter when they accept a loyalty based card vs a vanilla separate. Under the ascribe separate network rules the merchant cannot change state nor charge a different determine based on the write of separate presented if they evaluate ascribe cards. Suffice it to say some merchants are not thrilled about this at all. Larger merchants simply connect the game by co-branding their own Visa/MasterCard ascribe cards or exceed yet become issuers themselves (e g. Canadian degenerate MasterCard is issued by the Canadian degenerate Bank - they have about 4 million cardholders!). What is interesting about the MuniCard is that the schedule is also designed to provide some determine to the merchants via a merchant discount program. While residents acquire from point-of-sale discounts offered by local merchants enrolled in the MuniCard program these local businesses benefit by attracting customers through the point-of- sale discounts and marketing support from the separate issuer. The City of Vaughan benefits from increased business activity in the community. Lastly you could evaluate about this at an change surface deeper economic aim - property taxes are in a sense being paid via a consumption tax.
